The Artist
A woodworker since 1975, Will Carpenter started his career in home renovations. By the early 1980’s he had turned his attention to building custom cabinetry, fine furniture and handcrafted clocks. In 1992 he established his own company, Carpenter and Carpenter, working with architects and interior designers to build custom works.
Will became fascinated with words and their origins in the mid-90’s, leading him into an in-depth exploration of “letterature”, the study of letters as architectural pictographs containing a world of symbolism and meaning that has been lost in today’s language. His interest in word study became so great that he actively sought to find a project that would marry his love of woodworking with his passion for wordworking. This was when The Word Foundry At Izworks was born: the place where the oracles are made and the letters are forged with red-hot steel irons. Ten years of development in three different two-car garages resulted in Folk Art Technology’s Word Oracles — designed “to let words go to work for you.”
